Infor, the industry cloud company, today announced that the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD), governed by Miami-Dade County, has successfully implemented Infor Enterprise Asset Management (EAM). Miami International Airport, the second-busiest airport in the U.S. for international passengers, and its four general aviation airports now utilize Infor EAM to facilitate timeliness and efficiency in completing maintenance across all facilities. MDAD initially selected Infor EAM after it was commissioned by county decision-makers as the enterprise system of record for all county departments. When recent capital expansions added more than 3.5 million square feet and hundreds of new assets to the organization's scope of responsibilities, standardizing on a comprehensive, industry-specific asset management system across all five airports became a critical initiative to support the provision of maintenance.
"We needed an application that could manage preventative maintenance, inspections and work orders at multiple facilities without requiring extensive customizations," said Carlos E. Jose, Miami-Dade assistant aviation director, Facilities Management and Engineering. "Infor EAM has allowed us to eliminate paper-based processes through automated workflows designed specifically for the needs of airports. This helps employees to increase speed and efficiency in day-to-day maintenance tasks, and decision-makers are better equipped to track progress and performance."
Prior to this project, which was managed by Infor Alliance partner Stratum Consulting Partners, facility supervisors experienced limited visibility into ongoing maintenance and open work orders. Infor EAM unifies operations and data, and integrates with critical third-party systems for inventory and Notice of Violations tracking, providing real-time insight into the volume of work across all airports managed by MDAD. This visibility has allowed the organization to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track assets, parts and labor, helping managers to make better-informed decisions regarding repairs, purchases and staffing levels.
With the ability to drill down into complete asset information, MDAD has successfully improved its ratio of corrective maintenance to preventative maintenance, helping to generate cost savings for the organization and prolong asset lifespans. The connectivity facilitated by Infor EAM also allows MDAD maintenance to improve collaboration with other airport divisions and optimize its use of resources, helping to reduce the overall cost of maintaining airport assets. Through this project, MDAD joins several other county departments in the use of advanced asset management technology to further streamline business operations.
"Airports face a unique set of challenges based on the sheer volume of people that use their facilities, which inevitably creates more work for maintenance teams," said Kevin Price, product director, Infor EAM. "Relying on a holistic asset management solution helps organizations like MDAD to boost productivity while also extending the service life of airport assets, which ultimately improves service to customers because maintenance is performed more quickly and effectively. It also allows decision-makers to more closely align facility and maintenance plans with strategic business objectives, as they can see the impact of asset performance on overall expenses."
